Mission Statement

The mission of Centenary Virtual Museum of Postmodern Arts is to provide and educate the public with arts dedicated to the era of the reaction of modernism and to offer this enlightenment with pleasurable ease and accessibility via the World Wide Web.

Curator Statement

Due to the explosion of the Internet towards the end of the twentieth century and now the twenty-first, we provided a Virtual Museum not about the past, but about the era we live in today. As history shows us, art is usually most appreciated long after it is created, however, that doesn't mean we shouldn't appreciate and enlighten ourselves of the artwork created today. Barbara Kruger, Susan Rothenberg and Thomas Hirschhorn are three artists that create works of art with the postmodern state of mind. With each in their own style, design art that would not be possible or considered art many years ago. It is very important to understand and appreciate the vast artwork that is created in the postmodern era because many years from now, it will not be current art, but a thing in the past.

A Little Background About Postmodernism

In the Late 1970's and into the early 1980s, many artists were interested in different concepts of art. New styles were emerging, and traditional art rules were being put to rest. A new movement began with no rules to obide by. Repeition became prominent and artists craved new styles of art. The Postmodern artists seem to be the most creative in subject matter, form, use of mediums, style and overall themes. The main goal is to portray life as it is today and intrepret their own perceptions into their works. Postmodern artists give there viewers a chance to see objects differently and symbolically for the time period we live in. Please view our galleries to see our top picked Postmodern artists that have challenged our minds and taught us to see art quite differently from traditional arts.
